Excellent device!

I purchased these for my dogs as we were moving from the city to the country, a big change for my older dogs. We don't have a fence and I wanted to make sure we could find them if they ever got loose. Thankfully, in the 9 months that I've had them, they've only been truly needed once, but they did their job excellently when it mattered. This brings me a peace of mind as I live with an elderly family member and my dogs are big, so this helps as well in case something happens when I am not home. 1000% recommend this product.

Great product, great customer service

First time to write an review: five stars.Set up Whistle easily.I found out the hard way that the mount the company gives you to put on your collar is stiffer than expected and the device did not snap into place correctly. Within the first quarter mile of walking my dog off leash in the woods the device had fallen off. Even with a location the size of a garage using the GPS, impossible to find in leaves and brambles.Called the company. They showed empathy and just asked for a picture of the mount on the collar sent via email. The next day spoke to them and they sent out a new device. They also sent along a new collar which has a much better mount - a thirty dollar value. Above and beyond in response.Yesterday, back in the woods, my dog took off after a herd of deer. I am usually able to control my dog with a electronic vibration collar, but that doesn't work if she gets over a hill or out of range. This is the reason I bought Whistle. Usually I've had to wait until my dog is exhausted and comes across people who call (again - we are out in the woods). With Whistle I was able to track my dog and found her (first a deer, then her in hot pursuit) more than three miles away, approximately 30 minutes later. Amazing product.I have happy dog loves being outdoors, loves being off leash and, like Elmer Fudd, loves to chase deer. For piece of mind, Whistle gives hope to even irresponsible dog owners.

From all trackers I have used, this one is the best!

I had concerns of my dog escaping, so I bought a tracker (another than whistle), wasn’t happy with the tracking distance, so I bought another and another. Then I took a 3200 road trip staying at various places. I was trying to be cheap and not get a subscription tracker. After seeing how useless most non-subscription trackers were after 300 yards even though they advertised 3-7 mile range I opted to get whistle and give them a try. I’m sooooo glad I did.Whistle is more than I can ask for in a tracking unit!Note: you need to be in an area with cell phone range (specification AT&T, which seems pretty much every metropolitan area) I don’t recommend this product if your WiFi extends off your property AND there isn’t cellular network in your area... essentially if you live in extreme remote areas.Other than that Whistle is the best I have tested and gives daily activity such as distance, licking, scratching, and sets goals for your led depending on breed and age. This has actually motivated me to hit their goals with them and I have slowly gotten in shape and lost weight! The whistle app is robust and tracks you dog in my opinion every 3 min and if you fur baby escapes and you hit the track feature I believe or could be wrong, tracks your baby every 30 seconds or less on an google type map. For the features and functionality and health features, the best I’ve seen. Now let’s talk battery life. I walk my babies about 30-45 min a day; with that, the whistle go explorer lasts about 3 weeks which in my opinion is amazing, just need to charge it for about 4 hours or overnight.Another nice feature is that if they escape or leave your virtual fence that you set up around your property within the map, the app will alert you by a notification through the app, or text message, or through email, or all of the above if you really want your phone to blow up when they escape.I love the product so much that I decided to buy all three of my little ones a whistle. One of the units came from and it was blemished and even though I paid the brand new price, I feel that it was used in the battery life is extremely poor and only lasted about three days, so I returned it and bought another one and luckily it appeared brand new and the battery life matched the other two, so if you buy one and the battery life only lasts a short Time, just return it and get another one or buy it directly through their website as new.Yes there is a monthly or yearly subscription but think, if your fur baby were to escape or get lost, how much would you pay at that moment to get them back immediately.I highly recommend this product, it’s worth it and you get more than what you pay for in my opinion.

Awesome Collar. Pay no mind to bad reviews.

I have had my Whistle Go Explore for several weeks so I feel confident enough to write a thorough review. I was extremely skeptical of this type of technology but I took the leap and I’m glad I did. I also bought the collar Whistle specifically makes for housing the GPS/Activity Tracker.Right out of the box, it is ready to go. All you have to do is download the whistle app on your phone, charge the device, and navigate through the initial setup—all done through the Whistle app. Setup is super easy and relatively quick. **Whistle does require a subscription**. That may seem like a draw back but it’s no more than $5 a month. For me, it is worth it for the peace of mind if my dog gets lost.Pros:-durable. The device does show wear after some extensive play but it is purely cosmetic. The plastic used is very strong, light, and water resistant.-accurate. Device is accurate the vast majority of the time. I have ran into some issues where the app took an extensive period of time to load and track his location but after a period of a minute or two it was back working as usual.-easy set up.-tracks fitness levels and sets goals based on weight, age, and breed-tracks scratching and licking. EXTREMELY useful feature. The device tracks how many minutes per day your dog scratches or licks and compares that to a baseline average. If your dog licks or scratches more than usual, the whistle app will notify you. Really useful during flea and tick season. Increased scratching might mean it’s time for a flea treatment.-LED light. Pretty cool feature. LED light is fairly bright at night. It has slow and fast strobe as well as a continuous on mode.Cons:-device does show cosmetic wear after a short period. It does not effect the function of the collar.-Rare connectivity issuesTo summarize: if you are looking to simultaneously attain peace of mind in the event your dog gets lost, track your dogs health, and have a LED light to use at night this is the collar for you. It’s durable, the subscription is not that expensive, and the Whistle collar is perfect for mounting the device. You can use your own collar with the included mounting attachment, but the collar with the receiver specifically made for the device is metal and super strong. The buckle on the collar is also metal. The little loopy thing that you attach leashes to is also metal. It’s nice :) You won’t be disappointed.

Overall super pleased with this for our needs

This product has really met our needs overall. I was worried about battery life, but we're getting at least a week or more between charges. Our usage model: Our dog is a livestock protection dog who lives with and watches our chickens, ducks, and goats and keeps them from becoming coyote food. He is free to roam on our property, we have ~20 acres of which about 7 is where he spends most of his time. We had a neighbor complain that a dog looking just like ours was spending time at their place, chasing their animals, and possibly killing her chickens. Unfortunately there is another dog in the area that looks nearly identical so that it made it hard to know if our dog was the guilty one or not and whether we needed to do anything about it.I do have a wifi access point in our shop which is pretty central to where he spends most of his time, but even then he does his rounds around the ~7acres quite a bit so I was worried that this would hurt the battery life (impacted mostly when he goes outside of the wifi and it starts using the cell network). But as mentioned above - the battery life has been very good (at least good enough for us, having to charge once a week).I was also worried about whether we had good enough cell service on AT&T since in general we don't get good AT&T cell service, but it must be good enough as that hasn't been a problem.I thought it is a little silly that you get 3 months to cancel the cell service, but than after that are committed to a year - a bit old school on the contact side, but I guess they don't want you going on and off again monthly maybe?Likes: ability to see, by day, where he has been; getting notified when he has left his area; decent battery life;Extras: assessment of scratching and licking, health aspects, calorie and step/distance counter.Negatives: though understandable, would be a little nicer if it was a little quicker notifying of a safe area departure. This is because the device when close to home isn't checking all the time, so there can be a little bit of a lag (10min?) in letting you know.Wishes: I was there was some feedback to the dog that could be aligned with the safe zone departure - like at least a beep or something that could possibly warn him he's not where he needs to be. An automatic trainer of sorts.Again - overall, after looking at a lot of different options, this one has worked very well for us.
